Your thrill can be the end of the world for someone

For over 20 years Harjan's parents had set their practice in the city and now have a huge hospital serving the people of Ghaziabad. Dr Behal and my parents have known each other since we moved into the city. Though we met only at times of sickness and ill-health in my home, we kept updated about each others lives.

My sister's school mate, Harjan Behal, elder son of Dr Behal, had just completed his MBA from Symbiosys pune. He was a perfect combination of brawn and brains. He came home to celebrate his new job and this post-graduate degree. Harjan had hardly spent any time at home when he insisted to go to chandigarh with friends for 2 days and the happy parents could not say no.

Harjan, his brother Shashank, and two more of his friends were off to the beautiful city. Never in his life he felt so free and elated. They went all over the place drinking and driving all night, when suddenly the driver ,Harjan, lost control and the car banged into a round-about. Harjan and his two friends died on the spot and Shashank broke every bone in his body.

Parents were informed, but the helpless doctors could do nothing to save their kids lives. Today Shashank is still on bed and will not be able to live his life normal because this one incident that happened to him. Dr Behal and his family is totally shattered and their hospital has lost its charm.

A mistake on the drivers part lead to loss of 4 young kids and left a lifetime of misery for three families. This is a true incident but is not an unusual one. A moment of thrill is all that is needed to feel on the top of the world but do the drunk drivers realize how much they suffering they leave behind to their family.......

This is so so sad and such a waste of life. Drinking and driving is not something which is uncommon and neither is this end result.

But every time such things happen it shakes your cores. Just stepping into shoes of Harjan or his friend parents for a moment is enough to hit you enough to respect not only your own life but also lives, dreams and hopes of people associated with you.

Luckily I haven't known anyone personally have met such an end but i do remember reading about this lady who was at the receiving end of a drunk driving case. I was so strongly hit by that real life story that I tried sharing it with people on my blog. Here is the link to that
